It’s officially the shortest day of the year and the weather has definitely started to turn. Last weekend we had one heck of a storm and though the skies are back to blue, the mercury is dropping. We’re down to 9c this weekend! Yes, I know, for most people that’s not cold, but for Queensland that’s freezing! So I though I would share with you some of my favourite winter warmers…
I admit mashed potato is one of my all-time favourite comfort foods. But cauliflower mash is seriously starting to change my mind. And for those of you who hate the taste of cauliflower, I promise, it doesn’t even taste like it! Shay’s cottage pie is amazing and I’m hoping will be on heavy rotation this winter!
Okay. So there’s a chance that I’d never had Chicken Tortilla Soup before I moved to Queensland. I know, I know. But now I’m hooked! Gaby’s is one of my favourites and it hits the spot every time!
I’m having a serious love affair with mushroom right now and I’m wanting them in everything! Jennifer’s Mushroom Bolognese makes me want to not bother with a plate and just eat it straight out the pan with a fork. Excuse me whilst I gorge myself. Oh and I also make it GF using gluten-free pasta (I like the quinoa and corn based ones best).
P.S It’s also vegan!
I’m not going to lie, I’ve actually been dreaming of this berry pie. There’s something about cold weather that makes me want to consume my body weight in pies and crumble. And I know it can’t just be me! Although Heidi made this one as a summer recipe, it’s so good hot with custard or vanilla bean ice cream. Okay, I’m now going to sit here looking at it longingly and tell it I love it.
What’s your favourite winter warmer recipe? And is this cold spell making you want to eat your weight in carbs too?
P.S You can find all my favourite winter finds here.
