How is it that in all the years I’ve been blogging, I’ve never done a list of winter/Christmas films?! Well, seen as it’s now November and we are officially in Love Actually territory, I figured now would be the perfect time! Just as a caveat – yes, most of these are Christmas related, but heck, who doesn’t want to draw out the glad tidings for as long as possible?!
I mean, c’mon, no winter viewing list is complete without the Jamaican bob-sled team! Say it with me now… “Feel the rhythm. Feel the rhyme…”
The Family Stone
Ever wondered what SJP is like as the anti-Carrie? Then search no further! Whilst SJP is what drew me to this film in the first place, from the minute I watched, I fell head over heels for the entire cast. But, honestly, Rachel McAdams is all of us! Plus who doesn’t love New England in the snow?!
I know, I know. So sue me. But seriously, what says winter more than a pissed-off Princess turning an entire city/country to ice?! You can thank me later when you’re humming Let It Go in your sleep!
New York + Snow + Love = Holiday Perfection. I’m not sure there’s much more I can say without giving the damn game away, but if you’ve yet to see this, go make yourself a mug of hot chocolate, grab the snacks, blankets, pillows, and make yourself comfy!
Ummm, if you don’t watch Home Alone at least once between now and December 24th, is it even really winter?!
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
If you even begin to utter the words “childrens book”, I will not be held responsible for my actions. Possibly one of the best adaptations ever made. And Tilda is how I’ve pictured the White Witch in my head ever since I first read the book (which, if you’re wondering was somewhere around 1996)
That moment when Jude Law turns around in the pub? I died.Actually, who am I kidding, I died every time he smiled. I have watched this at least once a year, every year, since it came out 11 years ago. Which both terrifies and delights me. What have I been doing for the last 11 years? And why have I not watched it more? The perfect winter rom-com. A must-watch!
Miracle on 34th Street
I’d never actually seen this until Rob sat me down and made me watch it one Christmas about 6 years ago. The minute it finished, I wondered where the heck it had been all my life! If ever you needed to be reminded of the good in the world and holiday spirit, this is the one for you!
Not your typical winter/Christmas film, but I have a massive soft spot for Ryan Reynolds – even in a fat suit! Plus, Anna Faris is her usual fantastic self. Did I mention Ryan Reynolds?!
As far as I’m concerned, this is probably the best Christmas film ever made and it’s not Christmas until i’ve started watching it. Though, let’s be honest, I’ve been playing the soundtrack since November 1st and I’ll watch it at least 3 times between now and Christmas!
Any others you want to add to this list? Speak now or forever hold your peace!
