A Fresh Start
Isn’t it funny how a fresh start can seem like such a big deal, but once you take the leap, you can’t for the life of you remember why you were so scared in the first place. That’s how I’e felt about this. It’s something that’s been on my mind for a while now but I just haven’t had the guts to pull the trigger. It was only when my old hosting company decided to charge me an extortionate amount of money for a year’s worth of hosting that I finally bit the bullet. But boy, am I glad I did.
Even just working behind the scenes on getting this ready to go live has taken a weight of my shoulders and breathed new life back into my sails.
So, for those of you who aren’t already familiar with me (or the previous two incarnations of this blog), let me introduce myself. My name is Annéka. It’s a name I used to hate as a child and subsequently gave myself the nickname, Anni, which is still what the vast majority of my friends call me, so you can call me either. I’m a British girl who currently lives in Australia, but I miss home more every day and have plans to move back in the not so distant future. I’m a lover of slow living, minimalist fashion, books, baking, Christmas, flowers & gin - all of which you’ll find here. In the name of a fresh start, I’ve decided not to carry over every post I’ve previously written, but you will find that this blog has already been populated with some of my favourite posts - particular from this past year - for you to dive into whilst I work on creating more content.
The road to living with less hasn’t been easy, and I’m still nowhere near what a traditionalist would call minimal - I love books far too much to give many of them away - but that said, I have slowly learnt to value memories and experiences over possessions and to embrace the fact that I’d rather be snuggled up at home with a good book or chatting with a friend than in a noisy bar or rushing from place to place so fast I can barely remember what day it is.
And that’s the journey you’ll find here. I write about books, recipes, slow living and minimal style. I hope it’s somewhere you’ll kick off your shoes, grab a mug out of the cupboard, some cake off the sideboard and curl up amongst friends.
