I Spy Autumn

As I write this, I’m curled up on the sofa, a jumper on over my dress and the rain falling outside. Autumn is so close I can almost taste it! My morning walks have gone from humid, headache inducing jaunts to jumper wearing, breezy strolls through falling leaves - and I’m not mad about it at all. As much as I love summer, with it’s long, hazy days full of sand and chlorine, I can’t wait for cooler mornings, jeans, and red wine sofa snuggles. To me, there’s something about autumn that screams “read me!”, which probably explains why our TV cabinet currently looks like a mini version of the library. I just can’t stop myself! That said, though, there are always certain books and recipes that make me think of autumn more than any others…

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

Harry Potter by JK Rowling

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

The Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkein

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

The Cottingley Secret by Hazel Gaynor

Yes, I realise there is a definite theme here. What can I say, when it comes to autumnal reading, I really go in for fantasy!

Bruised Tomato and Bread Soup

Slow Cooked Beef Ragu

Goulash - I use an old family recipe but this one’s pretty darn good too!

Cinnamon Rolls

The Best Apple Pie

And now that’s got my mouth watering and my imagination firing, so if anyone needs me for the next few weeks, I’ll be in the kitchen or curled up on the sofa!

What are your favourite books to read and things to eat as the weather turns cold, friend?
